How can I fit the gym into my normal fitness routine and martial arts?

Man asked:

I am going for energy and stamina somewhat the look and to lose weight. I am thinking I can do my push ups, sit ups, stomach crunches, martial arts every other day and the gym the days im not doing that. Monday home routine Tuesday gym Wednesday home routine thursday gym etc.

If you know a better way let me know?

What machines should I be using at the gym?

How do the professionals handle this?

    NO machines! Damn.
Free weights. Machines don’t build strength, free weights does.
Your schedule looks fine and you’re really the only one that can decide since you base your training off of your life-schedule.

You should do the base movements(compound movements).
Squats, dead lifts, bench press and pull-ups or chins.

Don’t worry too much about looks, you’ll get that automatically as long as you train. Worry about your diet instead, but we have a section for that here on Y!A.

You have to learn to manage your time. The factors are always changing so this is a skill that will serve you throughout your life. There is a lot of good time management software out there if you don’t have a quality coach around.

All professions require managing time for the best production.
