would usajobs.gov or idealist.org be considered as public or private employment agencies?

Thinkerbell asked:

I need to get unemployment deferment for federal and perkins loans. Would my profile on usajob.org or idealist.org or even linkedin help enough to provide that I am actively looking for jobs? Or is it better to be on monster.com or career builder? I haven’t used the last two websites for a long time, do I need to have a long history to be able to use a web page as job agency?

  1. LinkedIn

Those aren’t employment agencies. Unless you’ve gotten specific instructions from your lender that you can fulfill the requirements with a profile on those sites, you’ll need to either 1) actually apply for jobs or 2) find an employment agency.

I do not know how it works for loan deferment, but for unemployment compensation you need to prove you’ve actually been applying for jobs. Simply showing them your profile on a search engine isn’t sufficient.

I recommend you speak with your lender and get more explicit instructions.
